EstLink 1
EstLink 1 is the first power connection between Estonia and Finland. The connection was completed in 2006 as a commercial project of energy companies from the Baltic States and Finland. Since 2010, the connection has been fully at the disposal of the electricity market.
Elering and Finnish system operator Fingrid acquired EstLink 1 from its previous owners in 2013, and the transmission capacity of the connection is currently allocated by the Nordic power exchange Nord Pool.
EstLink 1, which operates as a direct current connection, starts from the Harku substation near Tallinn and runs to the Espoo substation in Finland. The total length of the connection is 105 km, of which 74 km is located in the sea. EstLink 1 has a transmission capacity of 350 MW and DC voltage of +/-150 kV.
