The design tower Sookurg belongs to the same family as the first design tower in Estonia, Soorebane, which was erected in Lääne County in 2020. Both towers were designed by architects Sille Pihlak and Siim Tuksam from the architectural firm PART.

Sookurg carries the cables of Elering’s powerful Baltic-Tartu 330 kV transit line, i.e. the Estonian-Latvian power connection, and a 110 kV power line of local importance. Sookurg is part of a major project that sees Estonia and the other Baltic States disconnect from the Russian electricity network by February 2025 at the latest and join the Continental European network, thus ensuring a more secure electricity supply.

Sookurg is also an excellent example of Estonian infrastructure design, with which Elering makes its own contribution to the development of the living environment, local identity, and the creative economy.
