Gas transmission system
The Estonian gas transmission system is a category D gas system, i.e. a gas system with an operating pressure greater than 16 bar, consisting of 978 km of gas pipelines, 36 gas distribution stations, four gas metering stations, two gas compressor stations and one gas pressure regulation station.
Gas metering stations measure the quantity and determine the quality of gas entering the gas transmission system. Gas distribution stations reduce the pressure of gas leaving the transmission system into the distribution networks, measure and scent the gas, and ensure the consumption mode agreed upon with clients.
The gas transmission system has operational cross-border connections with Latvia and Finland.
The main developments and investments in the gas transmission system are primarily related to improving the regional gas market and security of supply, where the most important project was the connection of the Estonian and Finnish gas transmission systems in 2020.
