Preparatory work at the EstLink 2 fault location will take place in the coming weeks
Preparatory work for the repair of the damaged subsea section of the EstLink 2 electricity connection between Estonia and Finland will take place in the coming weeks. These activities will help reduce the risks associated with the repair and clarify the final details of the restoration work.
In order to properly plan and carry out the cable repair, preliminary work must be done at the fault location. This includes removing the seabed material covering the cable and cutting out the damaged section.
After the faulty section has been removed, tests will be performed on the cables leading towards the mainland to ensure they are intact. If the tests are successful, the ends of the undamaged cables will be sealed and returned to the seabed.
These preparations will help define the exact repair methods and keep the project on schedule, as some essential tasks will be completed before the main repair work begins.
The cable repairs are being carried out in close cooperation with the cable manufacturer and are expected to take four to six weeks.
Additional information on the progress of the work will be provided once the start date of the repair is confirmed.
According to the market message, the expected completion date for the fault resolution is 1 August 2025: Nord Pool - UMM Platform.
EstLink 2 was automatically disconnected due to a fault on Christmas Day and has been out of service since then. The extent of the damage was assessed immediately after the incident, and the planning of the repair works was initiated.
