Elering increases the crisis resilience of the infrastructure by procuring ultra heavy vehicles

Elering launched a public procurement for the purchase of a trailer and penetration equipment necessary for the transport and installation of transformers and other ultra heavy equipment. Possessing such technology significantly increases the crisis resilience of the energy infrastructure.

So far, Elering has used subcontractor services for transporting and installing heavy equipment, which may be challenging in a crisis situation.

“Given the need to significantly increase the level of crisis preparedness, Elering must be ready to transport critical equipment without delay. In a crisis situation, there is a queue to use such equipment, which is why Elering decided to develop the necessary capacity itself,” explained Reigo Kebja, member of the management board and head of asset management at Elering.

The trailer to be purchased must be able to carry a load of 250 tonnes. The penetration equipment includes jacks with lifting force of 50 and 150 tonnes and a sliding system for horizontal pulling and pushing of equipment weighing up to 300 tonnes.

In recent years, Elering has used similar transport and penetration equipment, for example, to transport and install transformers for 330-kilovolt substations as well as synchronous compensator equipment.

Tenders for the public procurement for the purchase of a trailer and penetration system can be submitted until 6 March. Elering will use the equipment purchased through the procurement only for operations related to its own infrastructure. There are no plans to offer the service to third parties.
