Due to the end of the existing renewable energy subsidy schemes, the subsidy will be granted through reverse auctions in the future.

Currently underway is the third reverse auction which was announced on 15.03.2021 and where the deadline for tenders is at 17.00 on 15th July 2021. The purpose of the reverse auction is to provide the market with an additional 4,52 GWh of renewable energy per calendar year, produced by a generating installation with an electrical capacity between 50 kW and 1 MW.

The conditions of and procedure for the aforementioned reverse auctions are described in the regulation “Taastuvast energiaallikast ja tõhusa koostootmise režiimil energia tootmiseks korraldatava vähempakkumise tingimused ja kord“.

The first reverse auction was organized in 2019 and the deadline for tenders was at 17.00 on 18. March 2020, the deadline for tenders of the second reverse auction announced in 2020 was at 17.00 on 14th September 2020.

The first and second reverse action were carried out on the basis of subsection § 596 (1)  of the Electricity Market Act and were intended for installations with a capacity between 50 kW and 1 MW. The objective of auctions was to provide the market each year with an additional five gigawatt-hours (5 GWh) of electricity generated from renewable energy sources.
