Share of Unlimited-Term Electricity Contracts Climbs to 22 Per Cent in July

Out of all the signed electricity contracts by the end of July, 78 per cent had a limited term and the other 22 per cent were unlimited.

Similarly to June, the share of unlimited-term contracts increased by one percentage point.

By the end of July, electricity sales contracts had been concluded for 75 per cent of the places of electricity consumption, and according to Elering's Data Warehouse, 25 per cent of electricity consumption points were using universal service. 99 per cent of consumption points without a contract belong to small consumers and 1 per cent to large electricity consumers.

In July, contract holders consumed 88 per cent, and universal service consumers 12 per cent of the electricity used in Estonia based on the contract info inserted to the Data Warehouse by elecricity sellers.

There were 1,638 customers who decided to choose another electricity seller and whose contract with the new seller started from the beginning of August. The number of such customers has been the largest so far this year, except for the beginning of July when new contracts started due to 6-month contracts expiring.

The market share of balance providers, which include both losses for network operators and the amount of electricity consumed through the universal service, is provided in the table below. The portfolios of balance providers in terms of system consumption are calculated on the basis of total consumption measured in the balance provider’s balance area. Balance portfolio shares do not coincide with the balance providers’ own shares of electricity sales to end customers, as the balance portfolio also includes electricity from other sellers within the portfolio. The table shows only the major electricity sellers and their share of the total market volume.
