Average electricity exchange price totals 36.34 euros per megawatt-hour in August

Based on data from the Nord Pool Nordic electricity exchange, the average day-ahead electricity price totalled 36.34 euros per megawatt-hour in August, which was six per cent higher compared with July.

The price in Finland was at around the same level, but in Latvia and Lithuanian it was one euro higher. The entire Nord Pool system price was 27.58 euros per megawatt-hour last month, rising by around five per cent.

Traded power flows in August moved from Estonia to Finland for one third of the hours and from Finland to Estonia for 56 per cent of the hours. No trade between the two countries occurred for 12 per cent of the time.

Turning towards Latvia, in August electricity flowed from Estonia to Latvia for 97 per cent of the hours and 56 per cent of the market capacity in this direction was used.

Carbon dioxide emission quota prices, which influence the electricity price, rose last month and transactions were in the range of 5.26-6.09 euros per ton. In July, the price range was 5.04-6.09 euros per ton.

Elering earned around half a million euros in revenue from cross-border capacity distribution last month.

Based on transactions on the last day of trading on the Nasdaq OMX market, the electricity exchange price in September may reach 41.95 euros per megawatt-hour, and the average price for next year will total 34.75 euros.
