According to balance plans, 4.35 million cubic metres of natural gas reached Estonia from Lithuania in August, which accounted for 25 per cent of all natural gas imports.

The gas imported from Lithuania by Estonian market participants may originate from different sources, including purchases from Gazprom auction. Last month, natural gas was imported from Lithuania by Baltic Energy Partners, Eesti Energia and Eesti Gaas.

In total, Estonia imported 17.38 million cubic metres of natural gas last month, which is almost 15 per cent less than in August of last year.

Natural gas was imported to Estonia via Karksi and Värska, and the amount of gas ranged between zero and 0.92 cubic metres per twenty-four-hour period. There were no disturbances in the cross-border gas supplies.

Last month, Elering rendered gas transmission services in the amount of 17.34 cubic metres. The share of the largest natural gas distribution network – AS Gaasivõrgud – was almost 90 per cent of the transmission service rendered. 437.22 million cubic metres of natural gas moved through the Estonian gas system as transit. By the end of August, 48 per cent of the Inčukalns storage facility in Latvia was filled.

In Lithuania, the average price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic gas exchange was 15.64 euros per megawatt-hour in August. On the Kaasupörssi gas exchange in Finland, the comparable price was 16.46 euros per megawatt-hour. On the Gaspool gas exchange in Germany, the price of natural gas fell by 15 per cent in a monthly comparison and was at its lowest level ever in August – 12.22 euros per megawatt-hour.
