Natural gas consumption grows 8 per cent in August
In August, natural gas consumption grew 8 per cent compared to the same period a year ago, reaching 204 gigawatt-hours.
The import of natural gas to Estonia was 204 gigawatt-hours last month, which means that import grew nearly 14 per cent from August last year. The minimum amount of natural gas entering Estonia in 24 hours was 4 gigawatt-hours and the maximum amount was 12 gigawatt-hours.
The reserve capacity in transmission pipeline in August was 33 gigawatt-hours, decreasing slightly more than 3 per cent during the last year. Transit from Russia to Latvia fell from 3.8 gigawatt hours last August to 3.3 gigawatt hours – a decrease of 13 per cent.
The price of natural gas traded in the Estonian bidding area of the GET Baltic exchange last month was 13.34 euros per megawatt-hours in the Estonian bidding area, rising 2,1 per cent compared to July.
In August, the price of natural gas traded on the Latvian bidding area of the gas exchange GET Baltic was 13.06 per megawatt-hours in the Estonian bidding area – the monthly decline in the price of natural gas was 3 per cent. In Lithuania, the price of natural gas in August was 11.55 euros per megawatt-hour – the price of traded natural gas dropped 7 per cent from last month.
The average system price in the Baltics in July was 12.56 euros per megawatt-hour and in August, 12 euros per megawatt-hour. The comparable price on Finland's Kaasupörssi was 20.88 euros per megawatt-hour in July and 20.41 euros per megawatt-hour in August.
