Elering and MCF Group Estonia have entered into a contract for supplying the data centre belonging to the latter with electricity from Elering’s Harku substation.

“This is the first data centre to join the Elering grid. The contract concluded shows Estonia’s competiveness and readiness of the transmission network to allow customers with high technological demands to connect to the grid,“ said the chairman of Elering’s management board, Taavi Veskimägi.

The head of MCF Group Estonia, Kert Evert, said the speed of completion of the network connection is important for the data centre, alongside other technical parameters. “In accordance with the agreement reached, Elering will, in just 14 months, build 110-kilovolt connection points at Harku substation for hooking up the data centre,” he said.

The data centre to be erected on the plot next to Harku substation has a power rating of 12 megawatts in the first phase and after the new Harku-Lihula-Sindi high-voltage line is completed, 18 megawatts. The customer will connect its own two power transformers to the connection points established by Elering. MCF Group Estonia will install diesel generators in the data centre as an alternative power source.

Under the contract concluded, Elering will ensure that the customer will have less than 150 hours of downtime due to equipment failures and less than 64 hours of downtime due to scheduled cuts.
