The Estonian-Finnish gas connection Balticconnector is out of service due to a potential leak
The Balticconnector gas connection between Estonia and Finland is out of service due to a potential leak, as the pressure in the undersea pipe dropped on Sunday night and the Estonian and Finnish system operators shut down the gas flow.
The cause of the outage is unknown. System operators will start an investigation of the event as soon as possible.
The accident does not affect the gas supply to Estonian consumers. After the shutdown of Balticconnector, gas reaches Estonian consumers from Latvia.
Before the closure, Balticconnector operated from Finland to Estonia. Most of the gas that arrived from Finland was forwarded to Latvia.
The length of the offshore part of the Balticconnector from Paldisk in Estonia to Inkoon in Finland is 77 kilometers. Balticconnector started working at the beginning of 2020.
