On Friday, Elering entered into a contract with AS Connecto Eesti for reconstructing the overhead transmission line on Muhu Island, resulting in bringing the 110 kilovolt high-voltage lines currently located on the same masts onto separate masts.

This change will improve the security of supply of Estonia’s major islands, as these lines provide electricity for all the consumers on Saaremaa and Hiiumaa islands.

The new line section will begin in Oina village and run to Linnuse village in the western part of Muhu Island. The line section, comprising 37 masts and 9.2 kilometres long, will be situated approximately 15 metres from the existing line.

Elering has entered into agreements with the owners of nearly 60 registered immovables for implementing the project which is estimated to cost some 1.5 million euros. Construction activities will begin next January and the work is scheduled to be completed in December 2022.

Elering’s investments in the high-voltage network of Estonia’s major islands amounted to 26 million euros in the period 2015-2020. Elering will invest a further 16 million euros in improving the security of supply of Estonia’s major islands in the years 2021-2025. In the near future, Elering will begin renovating and renewing the Sikassaare substation at the edge of Kuressaare.
