Elering has concluded an agreement guaranteeing gas supply for protected consumers valid from the beginning of April until the end of the year.

The storage and delivery of natural gas will take place based on an options agreement. The guarantee for gas supply will result in payment of almost 135 000 euros.

Elering uses gas reserves in emergency situations when conventional gas supplies to Estonia are not guaranteed – for example, on days with prolonged very low outdoor temperatures and exceptionally high gas demand or when gas infrastructure operations are disrupted.

Guaranteed gas volumes relate to Estonian consumers’ potential consumption capacity, and must ensure protected consumers with gas supply, depending on the situation, for up to 30 days. Protected consumers are defined as domestic consumers and producers supplying residential heating who cannot use any other fuel but gas.

This is the second time this type of agreement has been signed. The first protected consumer gas reserve supply agreement was signed by Elering at the end of 2015 and the agreement was in force until the end of March this year.

Last year, almost 530 million cubic metres of gas was consumed in Estonia.
