The average electricity exchange price fell in the Estonian price area of the Nord Pool Nordic electricity exchange in the last month almost two per cent to 30.66 euros per megawatt-hour.

In the Latvian and Lithuanian areas, the electricity price in May was 32.46 euros per megawatt-hour, and in Finland it was 30.67 euros. The system price on the Nord Pool Nordic electricity exchange fell by almost four per cent in comparison with the previous month to 28.46 euros per megawatt-hour.

There were price differences between Estonia and Finland for only nine hours in the whole of May, while prices varied with Latvia and Lithuania for 132 hours.

In May, electricity power flows moved from Estonia to Finland for 39 per cent of the time, and from Finland to Estonia for 37 per cent of the time. No trade between the two countries occurred for almost a quarter of the time. In the direction of Finland, the full capacity made available for the market was used for in total of nine hours. In the direction of Estonia, capacity was not exhausted at any time.

Power flows between Estonia and Latvia were in the direction of Latvia for 88 per cent of the time and 55 per cent of the market capacity was used. The total capacity provided for the market was used for 150 hours.

Elering earned nearly 450 000 euros in revenue from cross-border capacity distribution in May.

Last month, carbon dioxide emission quota prices, which influence the electricity price, were in the range of 4.34-5.19 euros per ton, which is a similar price range to April’s 4.49-5.05 euros per ton.

Based on futures trading on the Nasdaq OMX exchange, the electricity price for the Estonian region will reach 30.6 euros per megawatt-hour in June and 30 euros in July.
