Launched in November 2017, EU-SysFlex is a pan-European development and innovation project being financed primarily by the European Union as part of the Horizon2020 framework programme for research and innovation.

The project aims to offer new solutions for the integration of consumption and production flexibility to the electricity market to enable more unplanned renewable energy (wind and solar) to be linked to the system.

Elering is one of the 34 partners involved in the project, charged with the task of leading workflows related to cross-border data exchange, in which we can make use of our invaluable experience with the Estfeed smart grid.

EU-SysFlex news:

  • ‘EU-SysFlex marks its first anniversary’, 12 November 2018
  • Elering has worked out EU-SysFlex working paper where 74 articles in total were identified in 10 EU legal texts relevant for data exchange and where data exchange platform can support to fulfil respective legal requirement. Read the paper.
  • EUSysFlex data management team under the leadership of  and Elering has completed the description of wide range of data use cases based on the concept of Data Exchange Platform. October 2020 Read the paper

  • EU-SysFlex delivered the report on "big data" in energy systems, covering big data framework, cost, requirements, and 7 case studies: flexibility baseline modelling, forecasting, data privacy, TSO-DSO data exchange. The report was coordinated by Elering and University of Tartu. Read the report

INTERRFACE, which was launched in January 2019, is a pan-European development and innovation project for demonstrating flexibility technologies, which is largely financed by the European Union from the Horizon 2020 Programme.

Elering is one of the 42 project partners leading the development of the regional market platform for flexibility services and demonstration of the solution within scope of the INTERRFACE project.

The goal is to create regional solutions for involving consumption and production based flexibility for power markets.

A market platform for flexibility services that covers Finland, Latvia and Estonia will be developed first of all. Our vision is a market platform that can be developed further in the region as well as throughout Europe.

The term ‘flexibility market’ refers to a market framework and flexibility platform as a marketplace, which connects various flexibility products and makes it available to various electricity market stages. Access to a trading environment like this (market platform for flexibility services) must be easy for the end consumer as well as the market participants, who offer or want to buy flexibility market products.

The following diagram illustrates the flexibility platform:
