Electricity exchange price to fall by one tenth in October

In October, the day-ahead electricity exchange price in the Estonian price area decreased by 10.3 per cent compared with September, reaching 33.43 euros per megawatt-hour, according to the Nordic electricity exchange Nord Pool.

The price in the Estonian price area was higher by one cent compared to Finland and lower by 27 cents compared to Latvia. The price differed from that of Finland on only four hours of the 744 hours last month. Compared to Latvia, the price differed on 78 hours.

The total Nord Pool system price was 28.65 euros per megawatt-hour last month, decreasing by 9.3 per cent in comparison with September. Prices fell in all Nord Pool price areas.

Between Estonia and Finland, electricity moved to Finland 57 per cent of the time and to Estonia 34 per cent of the time. Between Estonia and Latvia, electricity moved for the most part, that is 93 per cent of the time, from Estonia to Latvia.

The carbon dioxide emission quota market price, which influences the electricity price, continued to rise in October and transactions took place in the range of 6.88-7.81 euros per ton.

Based on transactions on the last day of trading on the Nasdaq OMX market in October, the electricity exchange price in November may reach 34.8 euros per megawatt-hour in Estonia. Based on future transactions, the electricity price for 2018 was 34.45 euros per megawatt-hour.
