Georg Rute appointed development director of Elering digitalisation
Sympower founder Georg Rute has been appointed the development director for Elering’s digitalisation field.
According to Taavi Veskimägi, chairman of the Elering board, Georg will be responsible for devising and implementing Elering’s digitalisation strategy.
"The fact that Estonia is small allows us to move faster than our neighbouring countries. Our goal is to build the best smart energy ecosystem and thereby contribute to Estonia’s international reputation and security,” explained Rute about the challenge lying in wait.
The digitalisation strategy is necessary to ensure targeted development of the energy infrastructure’s information and data exchange systems. Digitalisation must ensure efficient operation and optimal planning for the energy systems and thereby readiness for closer integration of regional energy systems and the growth in the share of renewable energy.
In 2015, Rute founded his company Sympower, which focuses on electricity consumer aggregation and supply of regulation services to electricity system operators. Sympower operates primarily in Finland and the Netherlands. Currently there are more than 10 people working for Sympower and the company is growing rapidly, but Rute is no longer involved in the day-to-day running of the company. “After living abroad for 11 years, I want to put down roots in my homeland,” said Rute.
The digitalisation of energy systems will be addressed more broadly in Tallinn on 18 September, at the “Where Digital Meets Energy” conference, jointly organised by the Estonian and French system operators Elering and RTE and the umbrella organisation for European transmission system operators, ENTSO-E.
