Renovation Work Completed in Põlva Substation

The renovation work in Põlva substation was completed this week at a total cost of almost 1.6 million euros. Now the work is finished, Põlva substation will give Elering a modern substation with a lower environmental impact.

The work has taken more than a year and saw a new control building with relay protection and auxiliary equipment built for the Põlva 110 kV substation, and new equipment for the outside 110kV switchyard. New foundations were dug for the existing transformers and the oil removal system was rebuilt, which will significantly lower the risk of an oil spill.

Elering’s Põlva substation is one of the most important connecting points for maintaining the security of the electricity supply in southern Estonia. Major users of the substation include the large local companies Tere AS, Põlva Soojus and Põlva Liimpuit, and the substation is connected to several 35 kV substations belonging to Eesti Energia Jaotusvõrk.

The renovation work at the Põlva substation was carried out by AS Merko Infra. The substation was built in 1964 and was in poor condition before renovation.
