Elering Scholarship Program Open For Applications
For the second year Elering is starting a scholarships program in energy-related fields, aiming to support the graduate and post-graduate students of the Tallinn University of Technology who are conducting research on pressing issues related to the energy sector, as part of the framework agreement between the university and Elering.
The scholarship program is part of Elering’s energy competence centre, whose goals are the promotion of energy-related education, the implementation of scientific and development projects, and an overall increase in awareness of energy-related problems and the role of energy in society. The scholarship program will give students the opportunity to work on issues which are important to the development of Estonia’s electrical system as a whole.
The scholarship applicants are expected to already be familiar with their research topic. The choice of topics is provided by Elering, and it is based on the significant issues related to the management of Estonia’s electrical system that need to be resolved. Applications are welcomed from Masters and PhD level students from the various departments of the Tallinn University of Technology.
The 2013 scholarship topics cover the development of financial markets related to the electricity market, technical requirements for the transmission network’s main lines, the increase in thermal capacity of overhead transmission lines, the effect of wide area management and metering systems on the performance and operational management of the electrical network, and the management of electrical system performance using static compensation devices.
The first scholarship competition of this kind took place last year. Grants were awarded to two TUT doctoral students, whose research topics for 2012 were the analysis of the impact of electric transport on network performance, and a study of the opportunities for managing electricity consumption. Elering plans to expand the scholarship program to students from other universities in the future.
The application deadline for the scholarships is February 1st. Grant recipients will be announced in February.
