Over 90 000 Electricity Contracts Added in a Year

According to statistics from the Data Warehouse managed by Elering, 553 282 consumption points had electricity contracts as of the start of this year, an increase of over 90 000 compared to the start of 2013.

Nearly a quarter (24%) of the electricity contracts valid at the start of the year were indefinite, while the other 76% had a fixed term. A year ago, the share of indefinite contracts was only 17%.

Out of the fixed-term electricity contracts currently valid, approximately 53 000 will terminate at the end of June, and approximately 223 000 will terminate on the last day of the year.

The number of consumption points without an electricity contract as of the start of the year was 154 384, according to the Data Warehouse’s numbers. The amount of electricity consumed by consumption points without an electricity contract has remained stable for several months, at seven percent of the total consumption.

The market shares of balance handlers, which include both the network losses of network operators and the amounts of electricity consumed as a general service, are provided in the table below. The shares of the balance handlers’ portfolios in the system consumption are calculated from the total consumption amounts metered within the balance handler’s balance area. Balance handler market shares do not coincide with the balance handlers’ own shares of electricity sales to end consumers, as the balance portfolio also includes the electricity amounts of other sellers belonging to the portfolio. The table only shows the major electricity sellers and their shares of the total market.
