EstLink 2 Fault Has Been Located and Repair Works Have Started
On Thursday, the fault on the Estonian-Finnish high voltage direct current interconnection EstLink 2 was conclusively located.
The works on clearing the fault were started immediately. The switch off had been caused by a fault in the joint on the return current cable in mainland Estonia. According to the action plan made on Thursday, the works are expected to be completed within the next few days and the works will be finalized by the beginning of next week at the latest. EstLink 2 will be operational again no later than on early morning of Tuesday, August 19.
EstLink 2 switched off due to a short-circuit in the interconnection’s return circuit early in the morning on August 8.
The EstLink 1 interconnection continues to be operational and enables 342 MW of power to be transferred from Finland to Estonia and 358 MW to be transferred from Estonia to Finland.
