Number of Open-Ended Contracts Continues to Grow

According to statistics from Andmeladu, the data hub administered by Elering, open-ended or mainly exchange-based electricity purchase contracts were in force at more than 161,000 consumption points, approximately 2,000 more than a month ago.

The number of fixed-term or fixed-price electricity purchase contracts has fallen by approximately 1,000 over the previous month to just over 411,000 contracts. In total, electricity purchase contracts have been concluded for approximately 572,000 consumption points.

According to statistics from Andmeladu, there are approximately 139,000 consumption points that do not have an electricity contract and therefore are currently using universal service. In the previous month, there were approximately 600 more consumption points of this kind. In January, 7.4 per cent of all electricity was consumed at consumption points without electricity contracts.

The data provided by Andmeladu also suggest that about 1,100 consumption points will change electricity provider at the beginning of April. Roughly 700 consumers changed contracts at the beginning of March.

The market shares for sellers’ balance portfolios over the last few months can be seen in the table below. The calculation of portfolio shares is based on regional consumption capacities, which includes the grid losses of network operators and universal service usage volumes. Supply to consumers fixed in advance has not been taken into account, as a result of which actual shares of sales may differ slightly from those presented in the table.
