Share of gas imported from Lithuania in November reaches 22 per cent

In November of this year, sellers of natural gas imported 9.9 million cubic metres of natural gas from Lithuania, constituting 21.9 per cent of Estonia’s total gas imports.

Last month, Baltic Energy Partners, Eesti Energia and Reola Gaas imported gas from Lithuania. Eesti Gaas imported the balance from Russia.

In total, Estonia imported 45.4 million cubic metres of gas last month, 21.0 per cent less than in November last year. The warm weather conditions in November were the main reason for the fall in import volumes.

According to Elering’s estimates, the average price in November for Gazprom natural gas imported to Estonia was 19.02 euros per megawatt-hour, rising by one per cent compared with the October price due to the strengthening dollar.

On the Get Baltic Lithuanian gas exchange, the traded price of gas was 17.48 euros per megawatt-hour on average in November, and on the Kaasupörssi Finnish gas exchange, the comparable prices from the previous month were in the region of between 14.76 and 19.80 euros per megawatt-hour. The average November price on the GASPOOL German gas exchange for day-ahead transactions was 17.35 euros per megawatt-hour.

Elering’s calculations indicate the volume of natural gas network services was 45.4 million cubic metres in November. Of this, the indicated volumes for the largest natural gas network service provider – AS Gaasivõrgud – totalled 38.03 million cubic metres, or 84 per cent of the total volume. The estimated gas pipeline capacity reserves fell by 7.6 per cent year on year to 3.86 million cubic metres. The capacity reserve fell by 4.7 per cent compared with October.

A total of 37.96 million cubic metres of natural gas passed through the natural gas transit pipeline in southeast Estonia from Russia to Latvia, which represents 57 per cent of last November’s transit volume.

The Inčukalnsi underground gas storage facility in Latvia was calculated to be 74 per cent full at the end of November.
