Price erosion on the gas exchange increased the import of Lithuanian gas into Estonia

In June, the average price of gas fell on the Lithuanian gas exchange GET Baltic by 23 per cent to 12.83 euros per megawatt-hour in comparison with May. This in turn increased the percentage of Lithuanian gas of the total natural gas imported into Estonia from 9.5 per cent in May to 18.6 per cent in June.

In June, the comparable price on the Finnish Natural Gas Exchange Kaasupörssi was 16.84 euros per megawatt-hour.

The volume of gas imported into Estonia was 18.2 million cubic meters in June, which is nearly eight per cent less than in the June of the previous year; the percentage of Lithuanian gas accounted for 3.4 million cubic meters of that amount. The gas imported during the remaining June was bought from Gazprom. Gas was imported in June by Baltic Energy Partners and Eesti Energia. The imported natural gas entered Estonia via Karksi and Värska, and the volume of gas fluctuated in the range of 0.48–1.1 million cubic meters per day. There were no disturbances in cross-border deliveries.

According to the half-yearly comparison, the import of natural gas has increased by eight per cent in comparison with the previous year, reaching a total of 302.7 million cubic meters.

The volume of network services provided by Elering decreased by nine per cent in year-over-year comparison, reaching 18.2 million cubic meters, 82.2 per cent of which was rendered to AS Gaasivõrgud, the largest natural gas transmission network. According to the yearly calculation, the estimated capacity of the transmission pipeline increased by 19 per cent and made 4.9 million cubic meters.

In June, 212.2 million cubic meters of natural gas travelled from Russia to Latvia via the transit pipeline passing through southeast Estonia. In comparison with the same month of the previous year, the volume of transit traffic decreased by nearly 54 per cent.

The filling of the underground natural gas storage located in Latvia was launched on 8 June and by the end of the month, the storage tank was filled to the extent of 18.6 per cent, i.e. 429.2 million cubic meters of gas.
