Estonia consumed 370 gigawatt-hours of natural gas last month, which is five percent less than in October last year.

Natural gas imports to Estonia in the previous month were four percent lower than last October – 384 gigawatt-hours. The minimum amount of natural gas that entered the country in a 24-hour period was 6.7 gigawatt-hours and the maximum amount was 18.9 gigawatt-hours.

The reserve capacity of the transmission pipeline in October was 49 gigawatt-hours, increasing by two percent compared to last October. Transit from Russia to Latvia fell by 37 percent compared to last October – from 2 terawatt-hours to 1.2 terawatt-hours.

The price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic Gas Exchange was 13.43 euros per megawatt-hour in the Estonian bidding area in September and 14.77 euros per megawatt-hour in the previous month, an increase of approximately 10 percent compared to September.

The price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic Gas Exchange was 13.19 euros per megawatt-hour in the Latvian bidding area in September and 14.70 euros in October, a monthly increase of more than 11 percent compared to September. The price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic Gas Exchange was 12.38 euros per megawatt-hour in the Lithuanian bidding area in September and 14.50 euros in October, a monthly increase of slightly more than 17 percent.

The average system price in the Baltics was 12.58 euros per megawatt-hour in September and 14.54 euros per megawatt-hour in October– an increase of more than 15 percent. The comparable price on the Finnish Kaasupörssi exchange was 19.45 euros per megawatt-hour in September and 21.23 euros per megawatt-hour in October – an increase of slightly more than nine percent.

The market shares of the balance portfolios of gas sellers on the basis of consumption are listed in the table below. The consumption volumes measured in the bidding area were used to calculate the percentages of the portfolios. The volumes include network operators’ network losses and energy sold as universal service.
