Natural gas consumption drops by three per cent in July

In July, a total of 189 gigawatt-hours of natural gas was directed from Elering’s transmission network into consumption, which is 3 per cent less than in the same period a year before.

The import of natural gas to Estonia was 200 gigawatt-hours last month, which is nearly 7 per cent more than June and close to 4 per cent more than June last year. Most gas was imported through the Värska gas metering station. The lowest daily quantity of natural gas that reached Estonia was 45 gigawatt-hours and the highest was 14.4 gigawatt-hours.

In total, 3.14 terawatt-hours of gas passed through the transmission network in July, of which 2.94 terawatt-hours was transit flow, which tripled compared to June of last year. The reserve capacity in the transmission pipelines in July was 46 gigawatt-hours, 8 per cent more than in last year.

The price of natural gas traded on the Estonian bidding area of the Lithuanian gas exchange, GET Baltic, last month was 22.3 euros per megawatt-hours, having dropped 1.7 per cent from June. The average price in Latvia was 22.49 euros/megawatt-hour; in Lithuania, 22.58 euros/MWh. The average system price in the Baltics was 22.56 euros. On Finland’s Kaasupörssi, the comparable price was 21.6 euros/MWh.
