On Wednesday, as a result of public procurements, Elering signed agreements with Merko Infra AS to renovate Tsirguliina 330 kV substation and build a new 330 kV substation in Kilingi-Nõmme.

The cost of modernising Tsirguliina substation is estimated at 4.3 million euros and building the Kilingi-Nõmme substation at 3.1 million euros. According to the agreements signed, the substations will be completed by the end of 2019.

The 330 kV switchgear of Tsirguliina substation was built in 1984. The equipment in the substation’s 330 kV part is physically obsolete and depreciated, requiring substantial repair and maintenance work regularly. During the renovation work, new 330 kV switchgear will be built in Tsirguliina substation and a second autotransformer will be installed. Also, new relay protection and automatics systems will be built. New foundations and oil separation system will be constructed for the transformers of the substation.

In the new Kilingi-Nõmme 330 kV substation, switchgear with two sections will be built, connected with three overhead lines directed to Tartu, Sindi and Riga. A new control building for the substation’s relay protection, control and auxiliary voltage systems will be built.

The construction works of Kilingi-Nõmme 330 kV substation will be funded by European Union up to 65 per cent; the remainder will be financed through a cross-border capacity auction profit. The transmission service tariff – consumers’ electricity bills – will not increase due to the construction of the new Kilingi-Nõmme substation.
