The Supervisory Board convened on Friday September 12, electing Kajar Lember as the new Chairman and extending the mandate of Taavi Veskimägi, the Chairman of the Management Board.

Lember, a seasoned entrepreneur and politician, has been the Deputy Mayor of Tartu in the finance and business sector since 2013. Previously, he was a member of the Estonian Parliament Riigikogu for the term of 2011-2013. Lember has been a member of the governing bodies of several foundations and business associations. In 2010, he founded the Vudila playground, which has since become a significant tourism attraction of Southern Estonia, as a private entrepreneur.

"The role of Elering in the Estonian energy system is of great importance, as in addition to ensuring security of supply and a level playing field to all participants in the electricity market, the objective of the company is to make strategic investments, taking into account both the efficiency, as well as the socio-economic developments and needs of Estonia," commented Kajar Lember, the new Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

"Based on my previous management experience both in the public and private sectors, I believe it is important for the Supervisory Board to take a customer-oriented approach and think about how the state-owned company interacts with business partners and market participants," added Lember.

According to Veskimägi, Elering has many serious challenges for the years to come, be it the creation of a common electricity and gas transmission system operator, preparation of the synchronisation of the Baltic States with the synchronous grid of Continental Europe, or the full integration of the Estonian energy markets with the single European market.

The appointment of other Members of the Management Board will be discussed during the next Supervisory Board meeting.

Heiki Tammoja, Tarmo Mänd, Thomas Auväärt and Timo Tatar are also Members of the Supervisory Board along with Kajar Lember.
