Elering has concluded a contract for the renovation of the Kopli high-voltage substation on Pelguranna Street in Tallinn, the result of which will be the substantial reduction in the noise produced by the substation equipment.

In order to reduce noise levels, transformers and reactors will be installed in an enclosed building during renovation works. The result of this will be less disturbance from the substation for residents of nearby buildings. Currently, the main equipment at the Kopli substation is located outdoors.

During renovation work, the substation will receive a new 110-kilovolt switchgear, where two new lines and two CIT transformers will be connected. At the same time, domestic and commercial consumption measuring systems will be upgraded, and a new control building will be constructed.

Work on upgrading the Kopli substation will cost 1.63 million euros excluding VAT. The state procurement tender was won by ABB Eesti AS, whose bid was the cheapest of the six received. Modernisation work on the substation is scheduled to finish at the end of 2017.

The current Kopli substation was built in 1984. Its technical systems are outdated and sometimes unreliable. In addition, the substation’s load-bearing structures are in poor condition.

In addition, Elering has recently concluded a contract for the upgrading of the Tööstuse substation in Tartu. The Tööstuse substation was also built in 1984, and its equipment is sometimes unreliable and in bad condition. During modernisation work, the Tööstuse substation will receive a 110-kilovolt switch gear, which will connect to two lines and two transformers belonging to an Elering client, distribution network operator Elektrilevi. The Tööstuse substation will also receive new domestic consumption systems and a new control building.

The tender for the Tööstuse modernisation project was won by AS Merko, who bid 1.03 million euros excluding VAT for the project. Work is scheduled to finish by the end of next year.
