Origin of energy
Guarantees of origin are used to prove the origin of energy produced from renewable energy sources to the end consumer. The energy sector is governed by the Energy Sector Organisation Act, and on 28 May 2022, amendments to the Energy Sector Organisation Act entered into force, which transposed the amendments to the Renewable Energy Directive (so-called RED II).
Proof of origin of energy is important to demonstrate to end consumers the share or quantity of energy produced from renewable energy sources in the energy supplier’s breakdown of energy sources and in the energy supplied to consumers under contracts when marketed as energy produced from renewable energy sources.
