New Elering supervisory board chairman is Timo Rajala
At an open meeting of the newly composed supervisory board of Elering, former president of the Finnish energy company Pohjolan Voima OY (PVO) Timo Rajala was elected chairman.
Rajala has a great deal of experience in the energy sector. He worked at the PVO group from 1975-2010, the last 18 years of which as president of the Finnish energy company Pohjolan Voima Oy, which produces hydro, heat, and nuclear energy. Previously, he worked as director and chief executive officer of Pohjolan Voima Oy and nuclear power station Teollisuuden Voima Oy for 18 years. Rajala was also chairman of the board of the Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid from 1996-2010 and the chief executive of Finland’s first private network operator from 1989-1991. Currently, Rajala is the chief executive of consultancy firm Rajalimes Oy and is the chairman or a member of the board of several energy companies and a member of specialist associations.
“My joint project with Elering is the implementation of important projects in society. There are many large development projects ahead for Elering, and in addition there is the ambition of developing in the area of energy digitalisation. I am very glad that over the next three years we can combine experience from two countries,” commented Rajala on the Elering board decision to appoint him chairman.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications nominated entrepreneurs Timo Rajala and Toomas Põld, as well as the deputy head of the State Assets Department at the Ministry of Finance, Tarmo Porgand, as new members of the Elering board at the end of May. Current members, the Head of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, Timo Tatar, and CEO of AS PRFoods, Indrek Kasela, continue as members of the board. Board mandates are valid for three years.
