In September, natural gas consumption grew 15 per cent year-over-year, reaching 243 gigawatt-hours.

A total of 251 gigawatt-hours of natural gas was imported to Estonia last month and compared to a year ago, import grew about 16 per cent. The minimum amount of natural gas that entered the country in a 24-hour period was 5.6 gigawatt-hours and the maximum amount was 13.7 gigawatt-hours.

The transmission pipe capacity reserve in September was a little over 38 gigawatt-hours, rising 2 per cent year-over-year. Transit from Russia to Latvia fell by 24 per cent compared to September 2018 – from 4.2 terawatt-hours to 3.2 terawatt-hours.

The price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic gas exchange in was 13.34 euros per megawatt-hour in the Estonian bidding area in August and 13.43 euros in September, growing by 0.67 per cent from one month to the next.

The price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic gas exchange was 13.06 euros per megawatt-hour in the Latvian bidding area in August and 13.19 euros in September, growing by 1 per cent from one month to the next.

The price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic gas exchange was 11.55 euros per megawatt-hour in the Lithuanian bidding area in August and 12.38 euros in September, growing by 7.9 per cent from one month to the next.

The average system price in the Baltics was 12.00 euros per megawatt-hour in August and 12.58 euros per megawatt-hour in September – an increase of 4.8 per cent.

The comparable price on the Finnish Kaasupörssi exchange was 20.41 euros per megawatt-hour in August and 19.45 euros per megawatt-hour in September – a decrease of 4.7 per cent.

The markets shares of the balance portfolios of gas sellers on the basis of consumption are listed in the table below. The consumption volumes measured in the bidding area were used to calculate the percentages of the portfolios. The volumes include network operators’ network losses and energy sold as universal service.
