In May, Elering’s transmission network supplied 219.7 gigawatt-hours of natural gas to consumers, which is 27 percent less compared to the same period last year. The drop in consumption was affected by the significantly warmer-than-average air temperature in May, which last month was four degrees higher than the long-term average.

In total, 273 gigawatt-hours of natural gas passed through the transmission network in May, 54.4 of which was the transit volume through the pipeline in south-eastern Estonia. The lowest daily volume of natural gas reaching Estonia was 4.6 gigawatt-hours and the highest was 13.6 gigawatt-hours.

The reserve capacity of the transmission pipeline was, similarly to last year, approximately 50 gigawatt-hours last month.

Last month, the price of natural gas traded on the GET Baltic Lithuanian gas exchange was 19.03 euros per megawatt-hour in the Estonian bidding area, showing a decrease of 1.4 percent. The average price in Latvia was 19.82 and in Lithuania, 19.87 euros per megawatt-hour. The average system price in the Baltics was 19.85 euros. The comparable price on the Finnish Kaasupörssi was 21.7 euros per megawatt-hour.

According to Elering’s smart network platform Estfeed, the total number of gas measuring points in May was 56,150. Of those, 54,800 places of consumption had a gas purchase agreement and 1,350 places of consumption were buying gas from the network service provider as a general service. The agreements were extended and new agreements were signed on approximately 400 occasions and in the beginning of June, approximately one hundred places of consumption switched gas sellers.

As a result of initial May balance settlement, balance providers’ portfolios totalled the following based on consumption:
