In March, electricity trading prices continued to drop both in the Nordic countries and the Baltic States.
Electricity trading prices fell in all of the bidding areas of the Nord Pool Nordic power exchange, and the price level was the same throughout the region.
The price of electricity in the Estonian bidding area of the power exchange in March was 40.1 euros per megawatt-hour, which was 15.19% lower than in February. In Finland, the price of electricity was 40.01 megawatt-hour in March and has thus become 14.44 percent cheaper. In Latvia, the electricity trading price in March was 40.07 euros and in Lithuania 39.99 euros per megawatt-hour, which shows a drop of 15.25 percent and 14.86 percent, respectively. The Nord Pool system price fell by 10.9 percent to 40.86 euros per megawatt-hour.
In March, the Estonian and Finnish prices of electricity varied from each other in the case of 18 hours. The Estonian and Latvian prices varied from each other in the case of five and the Latvian and Lithuanian prices in the case of 14 hours.
In March, electricity flows between Finland and Estonia moved toward Estonia 68 percent of the time, and 24 percent of the capacity allocated to the market was used during the month. In 22 percent of the hours, power flowed from Estonia to Finland and there was no trading in 10 percent of the hours.
Between Estonia and Latvia, electricity flowed toward Latvia 40 percent of the time and 38 percent of the time toward Estonia. There were no commercial transactions in the case of 22 percent of the hours.
Elering earned 535,497 euros in auction revenue from trading cross-border transmission capacities last month.
The prices of carbon dioxide emission allowances – which impact the price of electricity – ranged from 20.56 to 23.17 euros per tonne in March. In the same month last year, the price range was 9.97 to 13.65 euros per tonne.
