On 20 July, Elering and AS Merko Infra signed an agreement to renovate Vändra substation in Pärnu County. The cost of the agreement is 1.2 million euros excluding VAT.

The renovation of the substation at the edge of Vändra town will be a turnkey project and includes the supply of equipment along with the necessary design work, installation, adjustment and inspection. The old switchyard will be demolished and a new 110-kilovolt outdoor switchyard will be erected along with a reconstruction of lines and new management, assistance and control systems. New foundations will be constructed for the transformers, sound barrier walls will be installed and a new more environmentally friendly oil extraction system will be established. In the course of the work, a new control building will be erected and the access road will be reconstructed.

The substation to be renovated dates from 1979 and has fallen into disrepair. After renovation, the substation will be more reliable and it will increase the security of electricity supply for residents and companies in the area.

Three companies submitted a tender to the public procurement to renovate the substation. Elering chose the bid from AS Merko Infra as it presented the cheapest tender.

The renovation works will start in July and the substation will be handed over to Elering in November 2018.
