Electricity and gas system operator Elering will accept toleration payment applications until 1 November. Toleration payments will compensate landowners the sum of money equal to the maximum land tax of the part of the property that is included in the protective zone for technological structures.

“As regulation of toleration payments is defective, this year as toleration payments we can compensate the land tax within the protective zone for the landowners who tolerate technological structures on their land, freeing landowners from the direct cost related to that kind of land property. In our estimation, according to the Supreme Courts’ judgement there is clarity in the obligation of paying the toleration payment to the amount of the land tax and this is what we base our plans on. From the landowners’ point of view this is definitely not enough, but it is still a step forward in comparison with the earlier toleration payments,” said Chairman of the Elering Board, Taavi Veskimägi.

“At the same time, I fully support this summer’s initiative from the Minister of the Justice to regulate the legislation on payment of toleration payments, and over the coming years we hope to rely on the new, clear regulation when paying toleration payments. Above all, it is the decision of the legislator to find a balance between toleration payments for technological structures and network charges. The higher the toleration payment, the higher, for example, the network charges for gas and electricity,” added Veskimägi.

There is more information on toleration payments available at the Elering and Elering Gaas websites. The application form available on the website must be completed and submitted via e-mail to ene.antik@elering.ee or info@elering.ee or via post to the address of Elering AS, Kadaka tee 42, 12915, Tallinn. The toleration payment will be paid by the usual deadline, December 1.

Landowners who have a tolerance obligation and who have submitted an application in previous years do not have to submit a new application, unless their bank account number or other important data has changed in the meantime.

Elering manages more than 5,500 kilometres of high-voltage power lines. Protective zones for the power lines cover more than 270 million square metres and there are more than 17,000 properties partially or entirely situated in these zones. Elering Gaas manages close to 900 kilometres of gas pipelines and relevant structures.
