According to reports from Nord Pool, the Nordic electricity exchange, the average electricity price in the Estonian price area in September was 32.4 euros per megawatt-hour, which is lower than both the Latvian and Finnish prices.

In Finland, the electricity price was 32.52 euros and 34.03 euros in Latvia and Lithuania per megawatt-hour last month. At the same time, the system price of the whole Nord Pool was 25.19 euros.

As in August, a third of the September electricity hours was directed from Estonia to Finland. Electricity was directed from Finland to Estonia for 55 per cent of the hours and there was no trade between the two countries for 12 per cent of the hours. Between Estonia and Latvia, the electricity was directed from Estonia to Latvia most of the time – 98 per cent of the hours – and 74 per cent of the capacity given to the market during the month was used.

Elering saw profits of 0.8 million euros from cross-border transmission capacity distribution last month.

According to power futures on the NASDAQ OMX market, the electricity price in Estonia for October is expected to be 35.2 euros. The average price for next year is expected to be 34.73 euros per megawatt-hour according to the power futures on the last trading day of September.

Carbon dioxide emission quota prices, which influence the price of electricity production, ranged between 3.93 to 5.02 euros per tonne last month.
