- The New Transformer in the Harku Substation will Increase the Security of Supply in Tallinn
On 30 March work to install a new transformer was completed at the key substation for Tallinn at Harku. The total cost of the project was 6.7 million euros.
The new 330/110 kV transformer will ensure that there is sufficient transmission capacity to maintain security of supply in the Tallinn area and significantly reduce the risk of overloading.
The Harku substation is one of the most important in the Tallinn region. The substation was built in 2004 and also houses the connection to Estlink1, the direct current undersea cable between Estonia and Finland.
The work was done by Siemens OY’s Estonian subsidiary. The work took two years and was completed on schedule.
The Estonian TSO Elering is investing a total of nearly 500 million euros in the security of supply in Estonia during 2011 -2015.
