- A New Series of Seminars about the Opening of the Electricity Market Started This Week
This week marks the beginning of a new series of seminars about the fundamentals of the electricity market. The aim of the seminars is to prepare market participants for 2013 when Estonian electricity market will open 100%.
The seminars are organised in cooperation of Elering and the law firm GLIMSTEDT and they will cover trends and future directions in European energy policy and their implications for Estonia, the legal framework for the opening of the electricity market, the roles and responsibilities of market participants, changes for consumers and producers resulting from the opening of the market, and other related topics.
The first seminar which took place on 14 September featured presentations by Taavi Veskimägi, CEO of Elering, Moonika Kukke from Glimstedt, and Rene Tammist, head of the association for the renewable energy producers.
Member states of the EU opened their electricity markets for all business consumers in 2004, and domestic consumers in 2007. Estonia was the only country to receive a derogation to open its market later, so that 35% was opened last year and the rest will follow in 2013.
